Mike Siers has spent the past decade serving the people of Nags Head with integrity, experience, and results. First appointed to the Planning Board in 2015 and elected Commissioner in 2017, Mike has twice been chosen by his fellow commissioners to serve as Mayor Pro Tem—a role that reflects the trust and respect he has earned through steady leadership.

Mike’s approach is simple: listen to the community, plan for the future, and deliver solutions that make life better for residents and visitors alike.

Strong Infrastructure & Resilient Community

Mike has led major infrastructure projects that keep Nags Head safe and strong, including a 20-year repaving plan for all town streets, stormwater upgrades, and drainage improvements. He helped guide the town through critical Beach Nourishment Projects after Hurricane Dorian and launched the Beach Nourishment Master Plan to protect our shoreline for generations.

Affordable Housing & Workforce Support

Mike knows that Nags Head can’t thrive without housing for teachers, first responders, and working families. That’s why he has pushed forward workforce housing initiatives, served on the Dare Community Housing Task Force, and updated multi-family housing ordinances to expand options for the community.

Parks, Recreation & Community Spaces

Under Mike’s leadership, the town has invested in spaces that bring people together—upgraded facilities at Whalebone Park, a new bathhouse and beach access at Epstein Street, and expanded programming at Dowdy Park. These projects reflect his commitment to keeping Nags Head a place where families can live, work, and play.

Fiscal Responsibility & Smart Government

Mike believes in delivering results without raising unnecessary costs for taxpayers. He has secured grant funding for major projects, updated the town’s pay and benefits system to fairly support employees, and cut waste—such as changing the town’s computer lease policy, saving thousands of dollars.

Environmental Stewardship

Protecting the natural beauty of Nags Head is at the heart of Mike’s work. He has advanced conservation easements, developed the Estuarine Shoreline Master Plan, and improved the septic health program to safeguard water quality. He continues to prioritize sustainability in every project.
